Absence Policy Overview

At Stepping Stones, our absence policy is designed to support employees while helping maintain consistency across lessons and teaching delivery.

All teachers receive their agreed term time schedule in advance and are allocated hours based on their role within the programme:


  • Venue Lead Swimming Teacher

  • Class Lead Swimming Teacher

  • Support Swimming Teacher


Key Points

  • Planned absences should be submitted as early as possible to allow cover to be arranged.

  • All absences must still be logged through the Stepping Stones Absence Tracker.

  • Short notice absences and sickness must be reported directly to management by phone before the shift.

  • Return to work calls may be required following sickness absence.

  • All absences are monitored, including planned leave and sickness.

  • The current trigger level for the absence policy is 3 absences within a 3 month period.


If the absence policy is triggered, the employee may be invited to a return to work meeting. The purpose of this is to review absence levels, discuss any support required, and ensure the role remains suitable for both the employee and the operational needs of the programme.
