Our Beginner 1 stage is aimed at swimmers who have basic water confidence and that are comfortable in the swimming pool environment. Swimmers who will submerge their eyes when instructed and who are starting to attempt a few strokes independently but still require teacher support on the breathing. If swimmers see teachers demonstrating skills and swims they will be more likely to understand what you are asking them to do.

Skill Required-

·    Comfortable submerging eyes and head into the water.

·    Can blow bubbles into the water.

·    Happy using a swimming noodle without adult support.

·    Will attempt to jump in from the side of the pool with or without adult support.

The objective of this class is to develop a basic stroke technique and introduce breathing practices.

Distance covered-

Teachers should use the flags or markers as a guide on distances. A beginner 1 should be swimming no further than 5m with support. E.g swimmers on the wall and teacher at 5m, teacher calls first swimmer in and walks towards them and meets them in the middle. This allows the teacher to be there to support and correct stroke but also gives the swimmers the opportunity and space to swim.
